Jan,

I have been expecting a payroll audit but we have not had one so far.  I know that several years ago that they started wanting a breakdown by activity rather than estimated job activity.  We all fill out our pay request sheet by putting hours (if any) in each of the categories that we have been assigned for our Worker’s Comp. Coverage.  If you would like a copy of this, I would be glad to supply it.  I then put it on a spread sheet so that you can see how much activity there is in each category.  I hope it doesn’t sound too confusing, it is really pretty simple.  Bear in mind that my process has not been tested yet by a CIS audit.

I too agree that the safety inspections are very helpful, but this is an actual come to the office and go through our payroll records - It has nothing to do with safety.  Wish I would have been on that list.   Jan

I have generally found the visits from CIS to be helpful in identifying and reducing our risks.  Remember that we are all part of a not-for-profit insurance pool that keeps our insurance rates competitive vs. what we could obtain from the private sector.  Speaking as a representatie of a jurisdiction that has had some very large claims, I appreciate their risk-management efforts.

Hi all - How many other lucky cities get to be audited by CIS?  I think this is just another way for them to get more money out of us - not to mention the time it is going to take for us little offices to pull the records out they want.  Jan - City of Donald
