I had them do that one time.  It was relatively painless, but before this they had us report our public works people as waterworks rate, but after that we had to start having them keep records showing what department they worked in ie., streets, parks, golf course, etc. and pay the rate according time spent on this work each year or we would have had to pay for all of it as the highest rate, street, which is almost double water works.  It is a pain for the guys, but I think it actually saved us a little money, as during the winter they did a lot of administrative and building maintenance which was a lower rate.

I too agree that the safety inspections are very helpful, but this is an actual come to the office and go through our payroll records - It has nothing to do with safety.  Wish I would have been on that list.   Jan

I have generally found the visits from CIS to be helpful in identifying and reducing our risks.  Remember that we are all part of a not-for-profit insurance pool that keeps our insurance rates competitive vs. what we could obtain from the private sector.  Speaking as a representatie of a jurisdiction that has had some very large claims, I appreciate their risk-management efforts.
