This whole issue is a bit distressing because it is hard enough to find the volunteers in town without the restrictions of contact with other residents due to an administrative or economic interest.  I have a brother-in-law that is a councilor who is also a local businessman, another brother-in-law that is a regional CAT representative.    I had a planning commission member call up and is ready to resign because he is a self-employed building designer.  I also have to laugh at the "relative" line item -- I'm from a fairly large family -- 10 spaces doesn't cut it!

We need to do something to make sure we don't lose all of our volunteers on the council and planning commission.  The hard part is that it is very difficult to get volunteers to serve on these thankless jobs and how do we operate if we cannot get any one?  Does LOC have a plan on how we are all going to address this issue?  I realize from the emails that LOC tried to make changes before it was put into law, but what is the plan now?

My other gripe with this process is that we are all supposed to get the volunteers to fill out these forms and so far no one has received them.  We are all warned of major penalties if they aren't filed by April 15 -- when do they plan on sending these to everyone?

Michele Young,

Thanks for getting the ball rolling on the protest of the new ethics commission rules, we have also had resignations submitted and others that are waiting to see the final requirements but that have already written there resignation letters. We used the letter written by your Planning Commission Chair as template and went from there. No responses yet but the e-mails just went out yesterday. I will keep you posted as information comes in. The Sad thing is that likely it will be too late to keep from losing some good people.
