Hello Neighbors,

I was asked several months ago to form a Task Force to help protect the Citizens of Lafayette in the event of a natural or man made disaster.  As a result of this request the “LAFAYETTE DISASTER PREPAREDNESS TEAM”, was created.

On November 15th at 10 am, at the Morgans Vineyard Club House located on the corner of North Jefferson and 13th Place, there will be a meeting to discuss what you think the Lafayette Disaster Preparedness Committee should entail.

(Check back here often for meeting schedules, updates and changes.)

BE PREPARED, GET A KIT, MAKE A PLAN,

There are several types of disasters that I feel can directly effect us here in Yamhill County at any time without warning.  I am hopeful that with your help we can put together a plan that will work for all of us.  To be empowered with knowledge,  and learn as much as we can about the pitfalls of each of these disaster’s.

I invite you to be a part of this great team so we can all be empowered to be READY to protect our homes, families, neighbors, pets and property, should any of these things befall us.

Not in any particular order: (and not limited to)
1) Flood
2) Extreme Heat
3) Earthquake
4) Haz Mat Spills
5) Structure/Wildland Fire
6) Drought
7) Extreme Cold
8) Wind Storms
9) Loss of Power
10) School Safety during a disaster

We need you to help develop a safe plan for all of us.  Remember, “the only one you can depend on in a disaster situation is YOU”

LAFAYETTE DISASTER PREPAREDNESS TEAM GOALS and MISSION STATEMENT

It is the goal of the Lafayette Disaster Preparedness Team to educate and empower all residents of the City of Lafayette to mitigate, prepare for, and recover from any natural or man made disaster that may befall us.

This includes but is not limited to sponsoring Red Cross blood drives, collecting non-perishable foods for distribution either by the Lafayette Disaster Preparedness Team, or the Lafayette Community Church.

We will create an assessment plan to determine the eligibility of low income families the elderly and disabled,  to help them prepare their homes for winter, with sealing air leaks, apply plastic to windows, and make minor repairs to insure they stay warm during the winter cold, and to help clean up yard debris.

We will obtain a list, as needed, of the elderly and disabled so we can make sure they have food, heat, and medication during cold weather, and power outages in the event that Meals on Wheels can not get to them.

We will put into place the following officers:

(Founder/Coordinator: Bonita S. Pursel)

Assistant Coordinator

Treasurer

Secretary

Community Resource's

Fund Raising

Emergency Communications

Phone List

Grant Writer

Media Coverage

Assessment Team Leader

As soon as possible we will file for an assumed business name,  501c3 non profit status and will glean all that it represents.

We will have at least one meeting per month for board members, the first of which will be held on November 15th  10am at the Morgans Vineyard Club House located on the corner of North Jefferson and 13th Place Lafayette, Oregon.  We will call additional meetings if needed for training or in case of a disaster or some other emergency.

By signing below I will promise to do my best to help educate all residents of the City of Lafayette to prepare for any natural or man made disaster that may befall us.  I also promise to do my best to help my fellow residents recover after any such disaster.
